day 3: Free day in Arequipa
Free day in Arequipa.

We recommend you visit the famous Catholic sites of the city such as the Cathedral, the Convent of Santa Catalinaand the Cloister of the Compañia.

You can go to the Mirador and admire the beautiful surrounding volcanoes, including the famous Misti.

Alternatively, you can visit the Alpaca factories. You will have the chance to discover the creation of alpaca products and get to know the different varieties.

day 4: Departure to the Colca Canyon
Early in the morning, departure to the Colca Canyon by collective bus.

During the trip you will pass by the Salinas and Aguada Blanca Natural Reserve located at approximately 4300 meters of altitude. In addition, you will be able to see herds of llamas.

You will pass through the Patabamaba pass, at more than 4900 meters of altitude, and will feel the effects of the lack of oxygen. This place is a perfect point of view to appreciate the volcanoes and snow-capped mountains like the Hualca-Hualca, the Sabancaya and the Ampato.

The thousands of agricultural terraces inherited from ancient civilizations highlight the geographical importance of the Colca River Valley; fertile, abysmal and majestic.

You will arrive at the village of Yanque or Chivay and settle in your hotel.

day 5: Colca canyon and departure to Puno
Early in the morning, you will go to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint from where you will have an impressive view of the landscape that the canyon and its valley offers. From this rocky point, you will observe the magnificent condors flying in their home.

You will descend the canyon passing by the Antehuilque and Choquetico viewpoints, famous for their pre-Inca cemetery and their suspended tombs. You will discover many traditional villages, such as: Maca, Achoma and Yanque and their colonial baroque church.

Lunch on your own in Chivay.

After lunch, departure to Puno by line bus.

During this trip you will make some stops to enjoy the Andean landscapes and the biodiversity of this region.

day 6: Uros and Amantani islands
Transfer to the port of Puno.

Departure by boat to discover the Titicaca Lake, the highest navigable lake in the world.

You will start this excursion, visiting the Uros Islands, approximately 40 islands made with aquatic plants and reinforced with reeds from the lake or "Totora". In addition, you will meet the inhabitants of these islands.

You will continue the excursion on the Amantani Island. You will also discover the traditions of the inhabitants, in particular their terraced agriculture and the breeding of llamas, goats and sheep as well as their handicraft.

day 7: Taquile island
After a traditional breakfast in your host family house, you take the boat to go to the Taquile island.

Taquile is a peaceful island with lush green hills, a contrast to the bright blue of Lake Titicaca.This will be an opportunity to discover the traditions of the island's inhabitants, who have a high quality textile tradition.

The typical costume, which reflects the civil status and function in the community, is also a particularity of the island that the locals will be proud to share with you.

Return to Puno and transfert to your hotel.

day 8: Crossing the Altiplano
Departure from Puno to Cusco by bus.

You will cross the great scenery of the Andean highlands, making several stops at different sites of interest.

You will discover the lithic museum of Pucara, which portrays the evolution of the Andean people from the first men to the Incas.

Then you will make a stop at the Abra la Raya (4335 meters). There you will discover the majestic Cordillera Real, in the heart of the South American mountain range.

Stop for lunch in Sicuani.

Visit to the site of Raqchi where the Inca temple of Wiracocha, the creator god, is located.

Finally you will visit Andahuaylillas. This small town is famous for its early 17th century church, known as the "Sistine Chapel of South America".

day 9: Cusco

The capital of the Inca Empire, classified as a World Heritage Site, has managed to preserve its historic center with its cobbled streets and perfectly carved stone walls.

During the day you will visit the famous imperial city, including the Plaza de Armas. You will have the opportunity to discover the stone of the 12 angles an Inca construction where the stones are perfectly intertwined.

Then, you will go to the Golden Temple or "Coricancha" in Quechua; there you will discover the foundations of the Santo Domingo monastery as well as the colonial church.

You will discover the main market of the city, San Pedro. It is the most important market of the city and you can find fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers.

Options: Visit to the Sacred Valley

Visit to the Moray site, composed of concentric circular terraces. They would probably have served as an agricultural laboratory.

You will also visit the salt mines of Maras. The salt mines are composed of more than three hundred terraces on the mountainside.

Visit of the fortress of Ollantaytambo. The strategic geographical location of this last Inca stronghold allowed them to resist the Spaniards.

day 11: Departure on the Inca Trail
Departure early in the morning from your hotel.

You will cross by bus the sacred valley of the Incas. You will join the kilometer 82, starting point of the Inca Trail (2600 meters). After passing the checkpoint, you will follow the Urubamba river and you will be able to observe the glacier of the Veronica mountain, you will continue your way until the archaeological complex of Llactapata that you will visit.

At the end of the afternoon you will arrive near to the village of Huayllabamba (3100 meters), then continue towards Yuncachimpa (3300 m), where the camp will be installed.

day 12: Inka Trail : Huayllabamba - Warmiwañusqa Pass - Pacaymayo
After breakfast, you will slowly begin the ascent of the Warmiwañusca pass which reaches 4215 meters of altitude.

During this long ascent you will cross a small forest of Queñua, a typical Andean tree. Once you have overcome this difficulty, you will descend into the valley and camp near Pacaymayo, located at 3620 meters above sea level. You will be able to appreciate throughout this day the construction of the Inca Trail.

day 13: Inca Trail: Pacaymayo - Runkurakay - Sayacmarca - Wiñaywayna.
This day's hike, is longer but less difficult than the previous one, it's going to be a beautiful trekking through the extraordinary archeological inca sites connected by the paved paths.

You will start visiting the inca complex of Runkurakay, then you will climb a pass at 3950 meters.

The day will end with a visit to the sites of Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca, Intipata and Wiñaywayna, where you will be able to observe a more exuberant nature.

You will camp close to Wiñaywayna (2700 meters).

day 14: Inca trail: Wiñaywayna - Inti Punku - Machu Picchu - Cusco
The last day starts very early in the morning to be among the first arriving to Machu Picchu.

You will arrive to the Sun's Door, the main access to Machu Picchu offering one of the most breathtaking views of the Inca citadel.

You will visit the site for about two hours.
Then you will have free time to visit the site, rest or try to climb the Huayna-Picchu or the Machu Picchu Mountain (not included). At the end of the visit, descend by bus to Aguas Calientes.

Walking time: 2/3 hours
Positive altitude difference: + 200 meters / 656 feet.

Departure by train to Ollantaytambo. Continuation by bus to Cusco.
