Arequipa is the second largest city in Peru, after Lima. extended on a plateau over the 7808 feets high. under the majestic volcan Misti. named "the white city", by its down town buid in white volcanic stones. The sillar. Among its most important monuments there is the Santa Catalina Monastery, which is symbol. but the Arequipa's charming is its warm athmosphere, joyful, full of students, artists and many tiny parcs full of freshness...the people are proud be called as "independants". what we can understand, this city is a jewel of a paritcular style in the peruvian landscape.
The main touristic attraction in the surroundings areas of the city is no doubt, the Colca canyon. between the high volcans, a tectonic fault cutting the stone: two times the Colorado Canyon, it's the living area of the Condors, the cactus. and the people have colorful houses. the trails by the rugged slopes drawn to the visitors from all over the world. we go by the tiny village of Chivay, three hours far away from Arequipa. at the entrance Chivay offerts to you an astronomic observatory (in free lightening pollution area). the hot water bassins, bike riding trails, or small walks to train the muscles.
The Cabanaconde village is the base camp to the Colca Canyon exploration, it's the deepest area into the earth. we can go by the mini busses coming from Chivay.
