Known in Quechua as Vinicunca but more commonly referred to as the "Rainbow Mountain" or "Mountain of Seven Colors," this natural wonder has recently emerged as Cusco’s second most popular attraction, right after Machu Picchu.
This striking mountain features vividly colored, well-defined mineral stripes caused by layers of clay, iron, sandstone, and limestone. However, its rapid rise in popularity has led to overcrowding, prompting travelers to seek alternatives. Fortunately, Palccoyo offers a similar—and often better—experience.
While both Vinicunca and Palccoyo showcase the same breathtaking geological formations, they differ significantly in terms of accessibility and crowds.
