Cantu o Cantuta (Cantua buxifolia)

It is a shrub about 3 to 4 meters high that produces beautiful red flowers, and is the national flower-symbol of Peru. Since the Inca period, the flower of this shrub has been consecrated to the sun god and is present in all the traditional Andean festivities or at funerals. These flowers are still used in the native communities to make a yellow dye and the branches to weave baskets.
