day 4: Visit the Canopy: Taricaya
Departure on boat on the river about 1:30 hours ride to arrive to Taricaya rescue center.
The name center come of a freshwater turtles protection center or "Taricayas", it's a project to safe and protect the turtle eggs by incubating them and reintroducing the newly born litters into the Madre de Dios, it is also possible to see different animal species: jaguars, various species of monkeys, tapirs, peccaries and some tropical birds like the trumpetero. It is here where wounded or sick animals, rescued from the black market or found in the forest, are brought to be treated and returned to their natural environment.
Lunch in the center
The afternoon, 30 mn walk through a primary forest to the Canopy walk.
Once climb the first 14 meters high tower, walk on a suspended bridge,the canopy walk, going up to a platteform 42 meters high, from this point, admire another view of the forest. The trees seen from above, the bewitching sound of the forest under the feet, the green that extends as far as the eye can see.
Return to the Lodge.
