Pampa de la Quinua

A few hundred meters from the village of Quinua, here is the battlefield where the Spaniards surrendered, at the end of the battle of Ayacucho in December 1824, and where Peru was finally and truly independent. To commemorate this event, a large white obelisk 40m high stands in the middle of the plain, with battle scenes and a tribute to commanders Sucre and Bolivar on its base.
