With its 3400 m², the National Park of Huascaran (the name comes from the highest peak of Peru) covers all the White Range (Cordillera Blanca) above 4000m. There are 7 peaks culminating at more than 6000 m and 663 glaciers. The global warming starts to be a real problem and small lakes are growing while glaciers are moving back. Flora is protected and the reserve is a fantastic place to observe pumas, condors, spectacled bears, viscachas (rodents in the family Chinchillidae) and mountain falcons, among others.
