This is one of the most important museums of the city of Lima. It was established by Miguel Mujica Gallo; until 2001 it had long been known to present counterfeits. Since it closed and reopened, the quality of the expositions has been verified (more than once). It proposes three distinct collections. The “golden” collection, the main one, it is composed of a huge number of objects made with this precious metal, principally used by the pre-Inca civilizations like the Nazca or the Chimú cultures as ornaments for mummies or in temples. Therefore, you will see Tumis (Peruvian sacrificial ceremonial axe), death masks, ceremony cups… The museum has also an important collection of textiles which date from the pre-Inca until the colonial time, and a collection of arms of the whole world with pieces at the very least surprising.
