In Quechua language, “KUMPI MAYO” means “the well done canal”. In reality, this is a hydraulique complex made of aqueducts carved in zigzag in the rock. This is one of the biggest of the continent. We do not know yet what is the exact use because Cajamarca has never been in water-stressed. Maybe it was a religious construction. Sculpted altars and thrones have been carved in the rock and petroglyphs and murals engraved inside. A mysterious legend says that these representations are the one of dead alpinists. Near there, there are stone peaks carved by the time that look like religious with their hoods.
