Miners’ life conditions, in Potosi like everywhere else, are very difficult. Work into mines is still made with hands and working conditions are still, more or less, the same as during the colonial period. So, miners spend every morning in the market in order to chat with friends and take their only meal of the day. It’s also the moment when they take their work tools and replenish the necessary provisions. The miners' bag is often composed of artisanal cigarettes, a bottle of alcohol (96° degrees!), coca leaves and in their catalyst, a drink. Dynamite sticks are here off the shelf and cost only a few bolivianos. This is where you could buy some gifts, to give to miners during your visit.
