The Huaca Arco Iris

This pyramid was built with adobe (dried sludge), and it is one of the best preserved in Trujillo’s region. As with other places, the El Niño climate phenomenon has largely destroyed the friezes but it is still impressive by the size because it covers 800 m² and measures 7.50m on the two levels it has. The rainbows shapes give the name to the huaca (arco iris) and might represent a prayer to the fecundity. Another predominant representation is the one of warriors that are dancing (the Chimu civilization, who might have built this construction, were first and foremost a warrior race)
