Capital of Bolivian trekking. In the valley of Yungas, with its sweet climate, this is the privileged base for alpinists. At about 3 or 4 hours from La Paz by going down to the valley, Sorata stands here, over the hill, dominating the Amazon rainforest from the heights. Two snowy peaks, massive, overhang the city; the Ancohuma at 6427 m height and the Illampu at 6362 m. Nature lovers, take your shoes! Then, by going down from the high peaks, tired, the city is relaxing: sweet climate of the Yungas and legacy of the colonial period give to it a charming and pleasant atmosphere. Sorata was also an inspiration for several writers, charmed by the “dolce vita” and tranquility of the landscapes.
