Piura

On the north coast between Chiclayo and Tumbes, the beautiful colonial city of Piura lives in an almost unreal oasis, set in the middle of an arid sand desert, about ten kilometres from the Pacific coast. The two main activities of the city are the exploitation of the surrounding oil fields, and an intensive irrigation-based agriculture: it produces rice that is eaten throughout Peru, sugar, cotton, bananas. The strong heat of summer is then eased by the presence of plants and their refreshing shade; the stroll through the streets in the Spanish air is all the more attractive
