It was founded in 1926 by Raphael Larco Hoyle. Larco Museum has been built onto the site of an old pre-Inca pyramid. The actual edifices are those that served as home to the Viceroy of Spain. Nowadays, it chronologically represents very impressive exhibitions galleries that propose an exceptional summary of 3000 years of cultural and historical development in the pre-Colombian Peru. It is organized in different topic areas, like gold and ornaments, ceramic, tissues and erotic potteries (more than 50 000 pieces, presenting men, women, and animals, in every possible and imaginable position). Larco Museum is also one of the few museums to present the whole possessions to the public.
