With the recent economic expansion of Trujillo, the small fishing village of Huanchaco has quickly transformed itself into a seaside resort welcoming city dwellers tired of the torments of the city, for a weekend or to spend a relaxing holiday. Despite the rapid development of urbanization, it has kept its charm and authenticity of yesteryear. For example, you can go on excursions to the caballitos de totora (see the section on Peru's special features), swim on the quiet beaches, or surf on the more turbulent ones. The archaeological remains nearby also contribute to the attraction of this modest fishing village.
